Dear Yuletide benefactor...
Dear Yuletide Author,
Hi! Sorry for the tardiness of the letter, but in a fairly in-character move for me, I put off signing up until the last possible moment. Procrastination is my besetting sin. At any rate, thank you so much for writing something for me. My letter from last year is here, in case more information on general likes and dislikes could be helpful. In general, things I like include AUs, angst that resolves happily, witty dialogue, and loving relationships of all sorts. Things I dislike include character-bashing and dark/angsty endings.
For fandom specifics:
In the sign-ups I said:
"Okay, so one of the things that struck me, watching this movie, was that I'm pretty sure you could make good, canonically-based claims that Henry, Will, Speed, and Mary were all in love with Abe. So basically what I would like is some love-triangle/polyamorous shenanigans with whichever of these characters you prefer. OT3s, OT4s, and OT5s would all be cool with me, as would be any kind of love triangle or quadrangle where someone ends up being jealous."
It occurs to me reading this that I make it sound like polyamory and jealous love triangles are the only two ways this can go down--let me say right now that if you have another idea, go for it! If you'd rather go down a platonic or romantic but non-sexual route with the relationship(s) in your story, that's cool with me. I guess the central core of my thoughts on this movie was "Wow, everybody sure loves Abraham Lincoln," and I'd really like to see how this plays out, whether that means romantic rivalries or that various Abe-loving characters hook up with each other or that it all ends in an orgy. I specifically requested Abraham, Henry, and Will, since those were the available characters in the tags, but if you'd like to focus on Mary or Speed or someone else entirely, that's cool, too. I would like to ask that, whichever direction you end up going, Abe's marriage with Mary not get erased or dumped on. I really enjoyed her in the movie.
In the sign-ups I said:
"What I really loved about this movie (besides the obvious 'pretty people with super powers') was all the teamwork it took to put together that final plan. I'd really like to see a story where they're all working together to achieve some goal. Any pairings are okay with me (so long as they do not involve an underage Cassie--more grown-up Cassie pairings would be fine)--what I'm really interested in, though, is the ensemble and the plan."
This pretty much sums it up for me. I really like the idea of all these underground psychics working together to overthrow or in some way damage Division, so any adventure you could cook up wherein Nick, Cassie, Emily, Hook, Kira, and Pinky reunite to rescue somebody or steal something or blow up a building or what have you would be awesome. I loved how the plan they came up with used everyone's abilities, so yeah, I'd love to see any way you can work their super powers into the plan. Don't feel like you have to stick everyone in there if you can't think of a way to work in some character(s), but generally I'm more invested in the teamwork here than the romantic relationships, if that helps.
In the sign-ups I said:
"I have long been intrigued by the prospect of Herod/Claudius slash. Whether as young whippersnappers or as emperors-slash-kings, whether they have an actual relationship or UST or some kind of unrequited affection on the part of one of them--I'm not picky."
What would I add to this that could be helpful? Hmm. Well, one of the things that always strikes me about the relationship between Herod and Claudius is that for all their surface differences, deep down they're smart people who will do what they think they have to do, and that they probably recognize that in each other. I don't know how I think that would play out, but I'd be interested in seeing what you think.
In the sign-ups I said:
"I'd like to see what happens after the movie. Do Tala and Leyla end up having kids? Does Leyla write any more books? How do they get on with their respective families after getting together? Post-movie Tala/Leyla of any flavor is what I'm after, I guess."
It seems like there's a lot of space in the movie to explore--like, how did Tala come to some kind of equilibrium with her parents? How do Tala and Leyla talk about the things they did when they were apart, Leyla dating Jennifer and Tala not getting married and all that? And seriously, what are those family dinners like? I guess I just asked more questions instead of getting more specific about what I wanted, but I guess most of what I want is Tala and Leyla being together and how their relationships with their families work after the movie.
I hope at least some of this was helpful. Thank you again for writing for me, and best wishes,
Tam Cranver
