It's that time again
Nov. 18th, 2009 03:02 pmDear Yuletide Gift-Giver:
Thanks so much for doing this, in the first place. It's so nice to know that someone likes one of my fandoms enough to write for it.
As for specifics...well, I'm sort of terrible in that way, because I'm one of those, "I don't know what I want, but I'll know it when I see it" people. But I can tell you what I like, and hope that'll be helpful.
I love, love, love Jordan Cavanaugh, her issues, her competence, her loyalty to her friends. She and Woody are cute together, but I was a huge fan of the Jordan-Lu kiss in the last season, and that episode where Mariel Hemingway had a crush on her, so Jordan-involved femslash of any kind or any level of explicitness would be awesome. But I'm really not picky! One of my favorite aspects of the show was the close relationships the medical examiners had with each other, and a story featuring Jordan's friendships with any of her coworkers, or really, any morgue friendships, would be groovy. I'm not too much of a Jordan/Garret fan--I kind of see their relationship as more platonic, but that's about all I can think of for things I don't particularly want.
I really enjoyed the recent BBC adaptation of Emma, especially the relationship between Emma and Woodhouse--their friendship seemed a lot more natural and playful than in some other adaptations I've seen. I think I said this on my signup, but a continuation or epilogue would be awesome--but to be honest, I'd probably also enjoy something set during or before the story, showing the development of their relationship. This is why I hate writing these letters--honestly, I'd like anything! Oh, well, I'm not a big fan of modern Austen AUs, and I have kind of an embarrassment squick, so I'd just as soon no one did something hugely embarrassing. So there's that.
Um, do I have anything to add to my signup notes for North and South? Um...well, it'd be fun to see how Margaret and Mrs. Thornton adjust to suddenly becoming family members, and again, I really like John and Margaret's different relations to the Higginses, so it'd be cool to see how those panned out after the book/miniseries. ...I think that's pretty much it. Oh, not so big on the modern AUs for this either. Not that I've ever seen any, but in principle, I don't think I'd want one.
M*A*S*H*. I enjoy it. I especially enjoy Radar the psychic clerk. It'd be awesome if the story featured his psychicness, because honestly, that was such a random touch of weirdness in a show that seemed otherwise to be aiming at realism. Also, I like his friendships with the doctors, particularly Hawkeye.
So, that's pretty much it for the specific fandoms. In general? Embarrassment's probably my biggest squick. I don't have any problem whatsoever with sexually explicit fic, but then again, I don't have any problem with rated-G stuff either. For the historical fandoms--I've just realized that three out of my four fandoms are historical here, so sorry for being so difficult--don't freak out about researching or whatever. My own historical knowledge comes mainly from period pieces and novels, so just the veneer of historicity is A-OK by me. Thanks once again for doing this--I'm sure whatever you come up with, I'll love.
Best wishes,
Tam Cranver
