Hi, author! Thanks so much for writing for me this year—I’m glad to have matched on any of these fandoms with someone. I hope this letter can give you some helpful ideas, but I’m not married to any particular prompt, so if you have another idea you’d enjoy more, go for it!

Things I generally enjoy include AUs and fusions of all kinds, happy endings, found families, moments of discovery or revelation, important conversations between characters, and first meetings. I love exploring relationships where both parties really like each other, and where both parties have interesting lives of their own. Fandom clichés are fine by me, as is literally any amount of sex in a story, from no sex or romance whatsoever to the super explicit.

My dislikes include dark or angsty endings, character bashing, betrayal, graphic violence, non-con, incest, and infidelity. I’m okay with complicated relationships, but I don’t like stories where the main pairing doesn’t seem to like each other, or where one character is the ‘good’ one and one character the ‘bad’ one—it’s just not a dynamic that appeals to me.

As far as specific fandoms go, I've put some rambling notes below:

In the sign-up, I said: I'd really like a look at how B.A. copes after the end of the movie or even during the events of the movie. One of the things I found really interesting about his character was the tension between what his friends were asking him to do and the philosophical conclusions he reached while imprisoned--he seems to have resolved this tension by the end, but how, and where does he go from there? I also really like his friendship with Murdock, and I'd be A-OK with B.A./Murdock.

I found the take on B.A. in the 2010 movie a really interesting exploration of how he could have become the TV version, but the movie doesn't really dwell on his change of heart at the end re: lethal force. I guess I'd be interested in seeing more of his thought processes, or how he sees his role in the team post-movie. TV B.A. forges a lot of ties in the community, often through mentoring kids, so that might be one path movie B.A. could take. Gen focusing on any of his relationships with his team members would be awesome, but I do have a fondness for B.A. & Murdock or B.A./Murdock--the fact that they're both late additions to the team, the thing where Murdock makes food for B.A., the hidden depths they both reveal at various points, all make the dynamic fun for me.

In the sign-up, I said: I'd love something about Lorraine, whether that's her backstory, Lorraine/Delphine (fix-it AU or otherwise), or her doing spy capers with the allies she made in Berlin. Or some combination thereof.

My mind was kind of blown at the end of this movie by the various layers of pretending Lorraine's had to do for a long time and how that affects her worldview but doesn't prevent her from finding connections with Delphine and other allies. This is the kind of fandom where a plotty caper fic would fit right in, but I'd be up for something introspective about Lorraine's goals and feelings about the undercover work she's done or what she wants to do next. I loved Lorraine/Delphine, and honestly, I could go for happy fix-it AU or angsty missing scenes or really any variant on their relationship. (I generally am not a big angst person, as I mention above, but it wouldn't be out of place here, so if the spirit moves you that way, go for it.)

In the sign-up, I said: I'd be interested in seeing what happens to Horstmayer and/or Audebert after WWI. Do they keep in touch? Does Audebert's relationship with his father ever improve? Does Horstmayer ever make it back to Paris to visit? How are their marriages affected by their experiences during the war? I'd be happy with a story about either of them or both of them, whether shippy or otherwise.

The awkward dynamic between Horstmayer and Audebert was compelling to me--these were two guys who seemed to have a lot in common and get along well but were prevented from really being friends by the circumstances. I'd be interested in seeing if that changes at all post-war, or if there's still resentment or lingering trauma or regret between them. Neither of their wives actually appears in the movie, but both felt important in their absence, if that makes sense, so if you want to put them in there, that'd be fine by me. If you feel like you just want to focus on one of them, that's fine; if you want to go the slash route, that's fine, too, though I'd prefer to avoid infidelity. Also, randomly, I feel like this is the kind of fandom where epistolary fiction would work really well.

In the sign-up, I said: I admit to having something of an OT3 for this fandom, but if Etienne/Isabeau/Philippe isn't your cup of tea, I would totally be up for a story about Etienne and Isabeau's friendship with Philippe post-movie as well. There's a lot of interesting stuff there--the class differences, the less-than-ideal circumstances under which Philippe met Etienne and Isabeau, the fact that two of them survived living under a curse for so long, and I'd love a story about how any of these issues affects these three characters, their relationships with each other, and/or their ability to live a 'normal' life post-movie.

I think I said most of what I wanted to say re: relationships in the sign-up, but a couple of prompt ideas that occurred to me, mostly based on the fantasy elements of the movie: Some other wizard pops up they have to deal with. Philippe and Imperius experiment with magic themselves. Philippe teaches Isabeau how to pickpocket, much to Etienne's chagrin. Etienne and Isabeau have to deal with a lot of hassles getting their lives back after living under the curse, getting their property back or figuring out where to live or dealing with people who avoid them because of the association with black magic. Obviously feel free to ignore any or all of these, just throwing ideas out there.

In the sign-up, I said: I'd love to see Clarissa and Jeff's future. Does Jeff stay in politics? Does Clarissa develop a political career of her own or go on to make a name for herself in some other field? How does their relationship work out? I'd like to see them stay together or at least be friends, and not get bitter and disillusioned, but an exploration of the challenges they face would be really cool.

This movie is basically my political escapism happy place, with its insistence that people in politics can actually be good and use politics for good purposes. I'd love to see Jeff and Clarissa find ways to make the world a better place and enjoy each other's company without losing that hope in other people. All of this is a long way of saying that I'd be open to a lot of post-movie scenarios, or even crossovers if you wanted to bring in another favorite political FPF or RPF fandom, but I'm not looking for anything cynical and disillusioned.

In the sign-up, I said:I'd really like to see what Hideko and Sook-hee get up to after the movie--where they go, how they make a living (or if they live off Hideko's inheritance), how their relationship develops. Alternately, it might be cool to see something about Sook-hee pre-movie, her history thieving or how she discovered she liked girls.

I don't know if I have too much to add to what I've already said, except to reiterate that I'd love to see them post-movie--Hideko's got a lot of trauma to get over, and I'd be really interested in seeing how they find a place for themselves in the world. I also was kind of intrigued by the bit where Sook-Hee said she'd learned about kissing from her friend, and she did seem pretty knowledgeable in that area, so I'd really be interested in seeing Sook-hee's love life pre-movie.

I hope at least some of this is helpful! Thanks again for writing for me, and happy Yuletide!

Best,
