Dear Yuletide Benefactor....
Hi, Yuletide writer! I’m happy to have matched on any of these fandoms with you, and thank you for writing me a story. I'll say ahead of time, I'm not very picky on plot details, so you have a story idea that doesn’t fit into one of the prompts I come up with here, go for it! But here’s some general fic preferences and stuff I would enjoy, and I hope at least some of it is useful.
Things I generally enjoy:
--AUs and fusions
--happy endings
--poly ships
--moments of discovery or revelation
--genfic
--important conversations between characters
--first meetings and/or characters getting to know each other.
--cliche rom-com tropes
--literally any amount of sex--none whatsoever, non-stop smut, I like it all
--having my heartstrings pulled, as long as there's a happy ending
Things I do not enjoy:
--dark or angsty endings
--character bashing
--infidelity
--graphic violence
--non-con
--incest
--relationships where the parties don't seem to like each other
As far as fandom-specific stuff goes, I laid out my general preferences in the sign-up, but if you'd like some prompt ideas, here you go!
In the sign-up, I said: I would super, super enjoy a post-movie Lionel/Laura story. They've both undergone really massive life changes by the time the movie ends, but they also seem like they're well set-up to support each other, so I'd like to see that!
Man, where do you go in a new relationship when one of you has just lost a father and discovered you're the illegitimate daughter of an awful real estate mogul who tried to have you killed, one of you has just lost a mentor and discovered that your childhood friend who defended you at the orphanage was working for said real-estate mogul, and you're both hiding out at a beach house your mentor left you? Well, I have some thoughts on this! Some ideas:
--Laura meets Danny and/or Coney, or Lionel meets more of the jazz musicians and bonds more with Trumpet Man--I loved how Lionel got drawn into the club not only by his fascination with Laura but by his fascination with jazz music, and his quick friendship with Trumpet Man was really interesting. It would be interesting to see more of that, but also the reverse, Laura getting to see more about Lionel's world. At this point he's got a lot more info on her than she has on him, so it would only be fair.
--The two of them make new professional decisions. Idk how safe it will be for Laura to continue working for Gabby Horowitz, but there's no way she'd stop fighting for what's right, so does she maybe take the bar and work as a lawyer in, say, anti-segregation, or voting rights, or criminal defense? I suspect Lionel wouldn't still work for Tony, so does he set up his own private detective agency, or decide to set out on another career path? Given what he's learned about injustice in the world and paying attention to it, would he find ways to help Laura--like, she sets up a law firm and he works as an investigator for it, or both of them go to work for the NAACP? Do they end up needing to leave Brooklyn?
--I could see Lionel and Laura proceeding very slowly and measuredly in their romantic relationship, wanting to be careful with each other, but I can also see them going "Screw it" and getting married a couple weeks in, and everyone who knows both of them being completely baffled by this.
In the sign-up, I said: I really want to see Robert and Sarah making it work after the end of the miniseries. Feel free to include MIllie or Aunt Alice--Robert and Millie's relationship is adorable and I think an important part of why Sarah was attracted to him in the first place--but Robert/Sarah is definitely where it's at for me.
So you know that Onion headline, "Genuine Love And Respect Only Thing Holding Area Relationship Together"? That's what Robert and Sarah are to me, because they face so many obstacles--class differences, Robert's bad reputation and unwillingness to keep his trap shut, Sarah's family, Robert's family, Sarah's money problems, the house burning down--but they just really respect and like the heck out of each other, and I can't get enough of it. After the miniseries, I imagine they're facing a whole new set of challenges, what with Robert's burnt hands and Sarah's family cutting her off, plus the whole WWI thing, and I'd like to see how they deal with them. I feel like they're both strong-willed people who are occasionally going to butt heads, so a story in which they fight and make up would be cool. Or! Sarah could find some purpose in life--a job, or helping Robert run a carpentry shop, or, I don't know, fighting for women's suffrage, and for once in her life get to experience doing something satisfying and being supported as she does so. Or maybe they have children, and the family dynamic shifts with Millie and Aunt Alice, and they have to deal with the emotional hurdles that come with that.
In the sign-up, I said:I really want Mi Young to a) enjoy some professional success running the team and b) make some friends/form some relationships, so I'd really like to see something about her running the team after the end of the series. Friendships with Jung Moon, Woong Chul and/or Tae Soo would be amazing, and if you wanted to ship her with one of them, I wouldn't say no, either.
I felt really bad for Mi Young throughout much of the series--she makes a lot of sensible points and just gets crapped on all the time, and then when she tries to break out and do her own thing, it blows up because apparently the world is just full of serial killers. I'd just really like to see her after the show ends having something go well for her. Do she and the team bring down the serial killer teased at the end? Do they successfully close some other case and celebrate over a good meal? Does she help Jung Moon adjust to life on the outside after his name is cleared, and the two of them become friends? Does she hook up with Tae Soo and enjoy some smoking hot sex with a chivalrous hitman? Does she get a girlfriend and have a hilarious conversation coming out to the team? Case fic, gen fic, ship fic, het, femslash, I'd enjoy all of it, I just want more Mi Young.
In the sign-up, I said: I would really enjoy brother-sister bonding--pre-movie 1, between movies, after Ultimatum, whenever, I'd just like to see more of Leïto and Lola's relationship. I am also into Leïto/Damien and Lola/Tao, so if one of those ships appeals to you, feel free to include it!
So yeah, I loved Leïto and Lola's relationship in B13--the mutual trust and badassery, the willingness to go to extreme lengths for each other, Lola's jumping on Damien no questions asked while she's still high and suicidal because it'll help Leïto (while also giving him crap for his dumb ideas)...all of it. So I just want to see more of them hanging out in a non-incestuous way. Some specific questions that could be prompts if you so desired:
--What's their family backstory? Do they have any other relatives around?
--What was Lola up to during Ultimatum? What did she know about everything going down in B13?
--What role did Lola play in Leïto's becoming the sort of semi-gang leader he seemed to be at the beginning of the first film?
--Were Leïto and Lola crashing at Damien's place between unmasking the defense minister and the last scene of the first film, or what, and if so, what was that like? In fact, what the heck happened during that time?
If you, like me, are a fan of worldbuilding, I'd love to see more of B13 in general and Leïto and Lola's place in it.
I hope something in here is helpful to you, and that you enjoy writing your story as much as I'm looking forward to reading it! Thanks for writing for me, and happy Yuletide!
Best,
Tam Cranver
