Dear Yuletide benefactor....
Nov. 14th, 2010 12:18 amFirst of all, thanks so much for taking the time to do Yuletide this year and for whatever you end up writing, because I'm sure I'll love it.
I'm not super great at these kinds of requests, but hopefully I can offer something helpful here. One of the things this year seems to be putting the request from the sign-up form itself on here, which I actually am really glad some bright person thought of, because I think it'll help me remember just what it was I wanted.
My first request was for Raising Hope. Here's what I said: "I'd just really like to see something about Sabrina--where she sees her life going, her relationship with her family, her and Wyatt, her and Jimmy....just anything about Sabrina, really."
Hmm. I'm trying to think what I could add to that. I guess I'm just curious about Sabrina's life beyond what we see on the show--how'd she get the gig working at the grocery store? What's her and Wyatt's relationship like? I kind of got the impression from "Dream Hoarders" that she finds the suburban lifestyle crushingly boring and her dad isn't super supportive of her creative efforts, but...what's her suburban lifestyle like? Is writing something she really wants to do, or a hobby she's taken up just for a change of pace? How does she get along with her family? And what does she think about Jimmy and his family?
Don't feel like you have to answer all or any of those questions! I'm a rambler. But that's pretty much all I'm looking for--something about Sabrina. If you want to go the Wyatt/Sabrina or Jimmy/Sabrina routes, I would fully support you in either endeavor.
My second request was for Nikita, the 2010 TV show. I said, "I would like something about Nikita's history with Division and her relationships with the people there. I'm not picky about whether it actually takes place in the past or the present or what have you, I'm just a sucker for background. I'm especially interested in the dynamic between her and Birkhoff and Michael, espcially since recently, Birkhoff and Michael have been talking about her with each other. She and Michael obviously have a complicated relationship, and there seemed to be a lot of history behind that scene in the first episode where she's trying to get Birkhoff to join her."
Yeah, like I said, I'm really a sucker for backstory. Nikita's training and early missions, the development of her relationship with Michael, her family issues, how she got so goshdarned good at computers (and if that had anything to do with however the heck you'd characterize her relationship with Birkhoff)...I'd love any of that. If you're into the present storyline more than the past, that's cool, too--I love Alex and all the new generation, too, and I'm fascinated by Percy and Amanda's control of division. I'd just kind of like to see more of how Nikita's past is influencing what she does now.
My third request was for Main Noon Ha. I said, "I would like something about the Sharma family--Lucky's relationship with his mother, or Lucky and Ram developing a brotherly relationship, or how the family dynamic changes with Ram in the mix, something like that."
That pretty much sums it up! Throughout that whole movie, I was like, "Yes, yes, all this action and romance and 'terrorists dressing up as pretentious teachers' is very nice, but let's get back to the family angst. Secret brothers! Their father died without ever getting to reconcile with his wife and younger son! And Mrs. Sharma likes Ram so much, he's such a good son--until she realizes that he's her husband's illegitimate child! THIS IS SO SAD, BUT SO GOOD!" Before movie, during movie, after movie--I'm not picky. I just want Sharma family sagas. And if there is any kind of cheerful reconciliation and familial love in the end, I will not complain (/understatement). Just not incest-y love, please. It's kind of not my thing.
My fourth request was for Plunkett and Macleane. I said, "I'd like Jamie, Rebecca, and Will post-movie. In my perfect world, they'd all three be in a relationship together, but if that is not your thing and you'd prefer gen or a relationship between any two of them, go for it."
Plunkett, Macleane, and Gibson post-escape--are they off in America, living mostly respectable lives? Have Jamie and Rebecca, not yet warned off a life of adventure by the dangers they've faced, dragged Will across Europe in a crime spree? Is Rebecca enjoying life on the run, or does she find herself nostalgic for the days when life was a bit less adventuresome? Has Jamie gotten over that thing he does where he takes all the money and does ridiculously stupid things with it, or does he frequently incur Rebecca and Will's wrath over his gambling and whatnot? Does Will feel like a third wheel with the two upper-class (or kind of semi-upper-class, in Jamie's case) lovebirds, or does he fit in nicely, whether romantically or platonically? And does he have a chance to use his expertise with either weapons or making cures for venereal disease? Inquiring minds want to know!
All of which is to say, feel free to go in whatever direction you want post-movie--as long as it involves our titular heroes and Rebecca Gibson in some way, shape, or form, I will probably love it.
Generally speaking, I don't mind angst but I like my endings happy; I'm a big AU fan but also enjoy canon in all the fandoms I've picked; femslash, slash, het, gen, whatever, anything goes; I like all the characters, so while critiques of character's behavior are sometimes real boons in a story, I'm not a fan of bashing just for the sake of tearing characters down.
Um...I can't think of anything else, so I hope all this is helpful and not just a pain.
Thanks again and best wishes,
Tam Cranver
